Projectdarts & United Sports Promotions teamed up to bring you the Midland open

this weekend and it was a case of high quality tungsten as a HOT gathering of

PDC,BDO,County and one Brilliant lady........

section seeing off a gutsy Simon Preston and then Lee Stanley before an encounter

with Steve Meek who had beaten class act Andy Firth in the latter round.Terry "The

Terminator" Temple seeing off Steve "Meeacat" Meek 4-1.

Well what can you say about this part of the draw as "Jabba" Jamie Caven was first

on the board with a 4-0 victory over James MCguigan and then would meet the man who

used to represent Great Britain at athletics Greg Beard after he had recorded a

bloodless 4-0 win himself and they both had a good contest before PDC Jamie Caven

won through.Dean "over the top" Winstanley would meet him in the section final

after Deano had seen off county star Andy Umney and youth star Matt Green without

dropping a leg. Both men recorded sub 15 dart legs before Jamie Caven won 4-3.

without losing a leg and then would meet "flower power" Stevie Thompson who had won

through against a cluster of of county youth stars Owen Cubit,Max Roberts and Tom

winning 4-2 after been 1-0 down to Jamie "venom" Veming and then beat Steve

leg in his games on route to the board final beating Lee West and David

Harrison. The section final would go to Mark Hylton who would beat Tommy 4-2 with a

decisive last leg break.

BDO World Championship youth runner up Harry Ward would kick off this section with

a tremendous 4-0 win and that was followed by the same scoreline as Trevor Bukhill

would beat Craig Benman to progress.Current PDC star Aaron Wike and former PDC

Elliot and it was Alan Statham who would make the final of his section with a 4-1

win over Carl Elliot and would meet "turbo" Trevor Burkhill who would win a

terrific match of high scoring in a 4-1 win over Harry ward and then Trevor would

go through rattling off his last 3 legs against Alan Statham in under 40 darts.
Section 7
Darren "Dynamite" Johnson would make it through to the section final without

dropping a leg against two good opponents John Elliot and Mick Smith to put one

United Sports Promotions man into the final and there he would meet another as

Nathan Aspinall would get through his side of the section which included Mark

Pigott,PDC's Simon Birkett and Martin French to set up a bum clenching match for

the tournament sponsors as they had to sit on the fence and watch the game with

great interest and boy what a game it was with Nathan edging it to win his section

and go into the last 8.
Section 8
Jason Marriot would make it through to the board final as he would see off Daz

Layden and Colin Osbourne who had earlier beaten Bob Pinder of the PDC in a very

tight game Colin would come from 3-1 down to draw level only for Jason Marriot to

go through and there he would meet Mick Haynes the crafty Derbyshire veteran.on his

side of the draw Ricky Sudale would see of the very talented Ian Withers 4-3 and

Ian Speed and with Mick Haynes going through against Matt Padgett and Dave Peasgood

it was left for Mick Haynes to Beat Ricky Sudale 4-0 before seeing off Jason

Marriot also and make the last 8.

in a match fit for TV with Jabba coming through it 4-2 and Jamie would be Joined by

Lorraine Winstanly who continued to see off challenger after challenger from the

PDC as she went through 4-3 against Paul Redfern.Mick Haynes would continue to

impress as he went through 4-3 against the world class Nathan Aspinall and that

left a belter as Trevor Burkhill and "mile high" Mark Hylton to fight out a very

close 4-3 after mark hylton had rallied from 2-0 down.

Final

Lorraine gave it all as she lead 1-0 and 2-1 and missed darts to go 3-2 up before

Mick would win the last two legs to take the title 5-2 against Lorrain Winstanly

showing what a tough and genuine player Mick Haynes is and proving that not only is

Lorrain Winstanly one of the best women players in the world but can also cut it

with the best men too.Mick Haynes rode his luck all day but came up with the goods
